At Home Lions Mane Grow Kits
Ready to experience the magic of growing your own gourmet mushrooms at home? Our Lion’s Mane Fruiting Block Kit makes it easy for anyone—whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a complete beginner—to grow fresh, delicious lion’s mane mushrooms right on your kitchen counter.
Each kit contains a fully colonized 5-pound lion’s mane mushroom block that’s already “alive” and ready to start producing. All you need to do is make a small cut in the bag, mist it with water a couple of times a day, and watch as clusters of fluffy, white mushrooms begin to form in just 7–14 days.
What to Expect:
-
Fast Results: Lion’s mane grows quickly, with the first harvest ready in as little as 2 weeks.
-
Multiple Harvests: Each block produces 2-3 flushes of mushrooms with proper care.
-
Fresh, Gourmet Quality: Lion’s mane has a meaty, crab-like texture and a mild, savory flavor that’s perfect for sautéing, roasting, or making into a “crab cake” style dish.
-
Beginner-Friendly: No green thumb required—just mist, wait, and harvest!
Ideal For:
-
Home cooks who want to try something unique and delicious.
-
Foodies who appreciate fresh, farm-to-table ingredients.
-
Anyone looking for a fun, hands-on growing experience.
What’s Included
-
1 fully colonized 5-pound lion’s mane mushroom block (sealed in its growing bag)
What You’ll Need
-
A spray bottle filled with clean water
-
A plate or tray (to catch any drips)
-
A clean knife or scissors
-
A well-lit spot with indirect light (a kitchen counter or windowsill works great)
-
Patience and curiosity!
Step 1: Prepare Your Block
-
Keep the mushroom block inside the plastic bag—don’t remove it.
-
Flip the block upside down so the filter patch (white square) is now on the bottom.
-
This helps prevent airflow through the filter, encouraging mushrooms to grow from your cut.
-
-
With a clean knife or scissors, make a single curved slit (3–4 inches) or an “H”-shaped cut on one side of the bag.
-
This is where your mushrooms will start to grow.
-
Step 2: Find the Right Location
-
Place the block on a plate or tray to catch drips.
-
Choose a spot with indirect sunlight (never direct sun).
-
Ideal temperature range: 60–75°F.
Step 3: Create a Humid Environment
-
Mist the cut area 2–3 times daily with your spray bottle to keep it moist but not soaking wet.
-
If your home is dry, you can drape a loose plastic bag (with a few holes for airflow) over the block to help retain humidity.
Step 4: Watch for Pins
-
In 5–10 days, you’ll see tiny white bumps or “pins” forming. These are baby mushrooms.
-
Once pins appear, continue misting around (not directly on) them to avoid waterlogging.
Step 5: Harvest Your Mushrooms
-
Lion’s mane is ready to harvest when the “spines” or “teeth” are long and visible (about ¼ inch) and the mushroom is fluffy and bright white.
-
If the tips start turning yellow, harvest immediately.
-
Use a clean knife to cut the cluster off at the base.
Step 6: Second and Third Harvests
-
After the first harvest, let the block rest for 7–10 days while lightly misting it to keep it from drying out.
-
To start a second flush, make a new cut on a different side of the bag and repeat the process.
-
With proper care, your block can produce 2–3 flushes of mushrooms.
Troubleshooting
-
Dry or cracked block? Mist more often or use a humidity tent (plastic bag with holes).
-
Mushrooms look fuzzy? They need more fresh air—move them to a better-ventilated area.
-
Pale mushrooms? They may need more indirect light.
Storage and Cooking Tips
-
Store fresh mushrooms in a paper bag in the fridge for up to a week.
-
For best flavor, cook lion’s mane like seafood—tear into chunks and sauté with butter or olive oil.
-
They’re amazing for “vegan crab cakes,” stir-fries, or roasted dishes.
